Page One Publishing is seeking a business editor for Douglas magazine, Vancouver Island’s premier business magazine. This popular local media brand is published six times a year and is essential reading for business leaders and innovators in Victoria and on Vancouver Island. Its in-depth local coverage of the key people and issues affecting our region has earned Douglas a highly engaged and loyal readership.
Key Responsibilities
- Generating, writing, researching and editing stories;
- Working closely and collaboratively with the Page One team;
- Representing the magazine at local business events;
- Staying up to date on stories and issues concerning the business community;
- Assigning and managing freelance writers;
- Planning future issues and overseeing the story lineup;
- Assisting with online content as needed;
- Attending Douglas brand events such as the annual 10 to Watch Awards.
Qualifications
- Minimum three years’ experience in magazine publishing or other related media;
- Post-secondary education in journalism or a related field;
- Experience editing and writing business content;
- Experience with Google Docs and similar technology;
- Public-speaking skills are an asset.
- In addition, the ideal candidate will be organized, self-motivated, professional and able to work to a deadline, and will reside on southern Vancouver Island.
Note: This job is in a hybrid office, part-time (about 20 hrs per week) at $6,000 per issue. There are 6 issues of Douglas a year.
